Crochet Scrubbies Free Pattern - For Everyday Cleaning

Pin for later or share with your friends

My crochet scrubbies free pattern is perfect for using up cotton yarn from your stash. They are great fun to make, and are therefore one of my favourite quick‑make kitchen projects. The textured centre is brilliant for tackling tougher kitchen messes, while the soft petal edges make them gentle enough for everyday cleaning. You can also use them in the shower.

This pattern originally appeared as one of the designs in my book Twenty to Make: Crochet Dishcloths, and I’m delighted to share it here as a free extract for you to enjoy, thanks to my publisher Search Press.

Whether you’re making them for yourself, or gifting them in a little bundle, these reusable scrubbies are a fun, satisfying project you’ll want to make again and again.

Crochet Scrubbies Pattern: What You Need

Here's what you need to crochet your flower scrubbies. Dive into your yarn stash oddments of contrasting cotton yarn, and if you don't have any aran-weight (10ply; worsted weight), you can use double knitting (8ply; light worsted weight) instead, with a 4mm (US G/6) hook. Your flower scrubbies will look the same, but will turn out slightly smaller.

Materials

  • Worsted/aran weight cotton yarn 50g (85m) — one ball of each in two different colours so that the centre and petals are different.
    • Shown in Yarn and Colors Epic 50g (Cream 002 and Jade Gravel 073).
  • 5mm (UK 6, US H/8) crochet hook.
  • Stitch marker.
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends.

Tension

  • Is not critical for this project, because it doesn't matter if your flower scrubbie turns out a slightly different size given below.

Finished Size

  • With worsted/aran weight yarn and 5mm (US H/8) hook: approximately 6in (15cm) across (from edge to edge of petals).

Frequently Asked Questions — Crochet Scrubbies Pattern

How do I make loop stitch or picot stitch?

Picot stitch is really simple: ch3, slip stitch in second ch from hook, slip stitch in next ch. It creates a tiny decorative bump — which is perfect for texture.

Can I use acrylic yarn for a crochet washcloth instead?

No - cotton is the best yarn to use, because it’s durable, absorbent, and stands up well to scrubbing. Acrylic tends to hold onto smells and isn’t ideal for kitchen use.

Are these crochet scrubbies machine washable?

Yes — for best results, pop them in a mesh bag and wash at 30°C. Lay flat to dry.

Can I sell items made from this pattern?

This pattern belongs to my publisher Search Press, so it can't be used for profit - it's only for personal use and for gifts.
