Materials for your free crochet Easter Egg bunting pattern:

  • Oddments of 4-ply cotton yarn (approximately 10g per motif which leaves enough for embroidering contrast spots on a different motif)
  • 2.5mm hook
  • Wool needle

I used Scheepjes Catona Cotton minis, 100% cotton/10g/25m, in the following shades: Moonrock (254); Bluebell (173); Old Rose (408); Lime Juice (392); Old Lace (130); Lemon (280)

Size of each free Easter Egg bunting pattern motif:

Each motif measures approximately 10cm long x 8cm at widest point.

Tension:

Is not critical for this project.

Note: You can make your motifs in a single colour, or use a contrast colour for the border. You could use any weight of yarn to make these larger or smaller but use a slightly smaller hook than recommended on the ball band for a tighter stitch.

Abbreviations (US terms):

To finish your Easter Egg motif:

Using a contrast colour, work small French knots over the RS of motif (or you can use beads or small circles of felt if preferred. Weave in all ends on WS. If your motif is curling at the ends, spray with water or spray starch on both sides. Pin out flat and leave to dry completely (the spray starch will also help to stiffen your motif).

Joining your Easter Egg motifs:

Using any colour make 25ch, take first motif with RS facing and work 3 or 4 sc (UK dc) into the central stitches across the top of motif, * 20ch, take next motif and work 3 or 4 sc (UK dc) into the central stitches across the top of motif; rep from * until all motifs are joined, then work a further 26ch, turn.

Work back along the chains and stitches just made, 1sc (UK dc) in second ch from hook, 1sc (UK dc) in each ch or st to end. Fasten off.

With RS facing, take a contrast colour and join with ss in the first st of joining strip. Work 1ss in each st to end. Fasten off and weave in ends.
