How to Use Your FREE Crochet Daffodil Pattern
1. Brooch
- Sew a brooch pin to the back. This works well on denim jackets, bags or spring coats.
2. Wreath Decoration
- Make several flowers and attach them to a wire wreath or polystyrene ring base, for a seasonal door wreath.
3. Keyring
- Attach a small keyring loop at the top of a petal (whilst working Round 6), or sew one on afterwards.
4. Hair Clip or Headband
- Glue or sew onto a snap hair clip, or onto a fabric headband.
5. Add a Stem
- If you would like a more realistic flower:
- Cut a length of florist’s wire.
- Then attach the wire securely to the back of the flower (see pattern instructions below).
- Finally, wrap tightly with florist’s tape
- This makes a lovely small bouquet when grouped together.

TO MAKE A WIRE STEM FOR THIS FREE CROCHET DAFFODIL PATTERN
Attaching the wire
- Step 1: Cut a 60cm length of florists’ wire, then thread wire through centre back of flower, through 3 or 4 centre stitches. The ends of the wire will sit horizontally across the back of the flower, like arms.
- Step 2: Take a 30cm chenille stick and lay it vertically on the flower back, at the point that the wire is threaded through the flower, with 2cm of chenille stick above this point (creating what looks like a cross, with chenille stick down the middle and wire sticking out at each side).
- Step 3: Fold each arm of wire tightly across the chenille stick once, so they are now at the opposite sides (so they have swapped places and are still sticking out and the chenille stick is trapped between them).
- Step 4: Now fold the top of the chenille stick downwards, so that it lies flat against the rest of the chenille stick and over the crossed wire. Twist this short end of chenille stick around longer end of chenille stick.
- Step 5: Tightly wrap the two lengths of the wire around the chenille stick, working in a spiral, down towards the bottom of the stick. If you run out of wire, starting wrapping again with a second piece of wire, so that the wire adds strength to the chenille stick all the way to the bottom. Trim off any excess wire with pliers. Fold the ends of the chenille stick/wire up by approximately 2cm so that there are no sharp ends.

Add the back base for your crochet daffodil flower
- Step 7: Slide the crocheted back base onto the stem and up to the top of the flower. Sew it in place to back of flower, using whip stitch.
- Step 8: Push the crocheted back base right up to the flower for now (to take it out of the way). Take the florists tape and starting as close to the top as possible, wrap tape around both wire and chenille stick tightly, making sure that you trap in the chenille stick so that it’s not visible. When you reach the bottom of the stem, work back towards the top again, winding the tape in a spiral. Cut off the tape when you are back at the top. Roll the stem in your fingers to smooth it all out.
- Step 9: Finally, pull the crocheted back base down to cover the edge of the stem (you could poke it down gently, using a blunt wool needle, to ease it into the correct place).
