How to knit a tiny heart
This project is quick and easy to make, because it requires only basic knitting skills. The stitch used is garter stitch, where every row is knitted, therefore it’s easy to remember. Simple increase and decrease techniques are used to shape the heart.
In this tutorial, you’ll find step-by-step instructions to create your own adorable knitted heart. I’ll walk you through the materials needed, the knitting process, and ideas for how to use them, so let’s dive into our stash and get started on this heartfelt project.
Why you’ll love my free tiny heart knitting pattern
- Perfect for using up yarn scraps: These tiny hearts are a fantastic stash-busting project, helping you put those leftover bits of yarn to good use whilst also creating something meaningful and thoughtful.
- Quick and satisfying: The simple design makes them quick to knit, and therefore offering instant satisfaction when you cast off. They’re ideal for last-minute Valentine’s gifts or a relaxing evening project.
- Versatile and thoughtful: These hearts can be used in so many ways – from gift toppers and garlands to decorations for cards or heartfelt tokens to share with loved ones, which therefore makes them a truly versatile addition to any knitter’s repertoire.
Materials you need to knit a heart from my free heart knitting pattern
- 4ply yarn oddments (just a few grams of yarn needed for each heart).
- Pair of US 1.5 knitting needles; UK 2.5mm.
- Yarn needle and scissors.
NOTE: You could use light worsted weight (double knitting) yarn as an alternative, with US 3 or 3.25mm knitting needles.
Finished size of your tiny knitted heart
Approximately 4cm high and 4.5cm at widest point (1.5 x 1.75in), using 4ply cotton yarn and 2.5mm (US 1.5) knitting needles. This measurement will vary if different yarn/knitting needle size is used.
Gauge/Tension
Tension is not critical for this project and may differ from person to person. Size may therefore vary, depending on yarn and knitting needle size used.
Free knitted heart pattern notes
