Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern – Ombre Star Blanket – Free Pattern

With my free crochet baby blanket pattern, you can enjoy the excitement of crocheting or knitting for a new baby, and if you can make something that also being you joy and comfort whilst you make it, then it’s all the better. With my soothing stitches and repetitive patterns, you will really enjoy creating this beautiful star blanket.

Inspired by the popular Ripple Stitch crochet pattern, this blanket is perfect for a contemporary nursery, embellished with cute little pom-poms. It’s also quick to make and perfect for stash busting which is my favourite kind of crochet. My Ombre Star blanket has been thoroughly tested by lots of crocheters and they all said it was the perfect project to help you switch off and relax, as you sit and crochet.

So it’s time to delve into your yarn stash and find 4 x 100g balls of double knitting (light worsted weight) yarn or use up oddments to make a multi-coloured crochet baby blanket.

What is Crochet Ripple Stitch?

The ripple stitch is a classic crochet technique that adds texture and dimension to your projects. It’s characterised by a series of peaks and troughs, creating a gentle undulating effect reminiscent of waves or, in this case, the radiant rays of a star. It’s the perfect stitch for your crochet baby blanket, as it’s calming and repetitive to crochet.

To achieve the ripple stitch pattern, you will alternate between increasing at the peaks and decreasing at the troughs within each row. This creates a pattern that ebbs and flows, forming a visually striking design that’s as pleasing to the eye as it is to the touch, resulting in a blanket that’s beautiful as well as functional.
