Free Crochet Granny Heart Pattern: Materials Needed
For each heart you will need:
- Oddments of any thickness of yarn in 4 colours - 7-9g in total depending on yarn used.
- Rounds 1-3 use the same colour - approximately 3-4g.
- A crochet hook size that is recommended for the yarn thickness.
- 3mm (US D/3) for 4ply (sock) yarn; 4mm (US G/6) for double knitting (8ply or light worsted); 4.5mm (US 7) for aran (10ply or worsted).
- Wool needle.

Not critical for this project because it doesn't matter what size it turns out.
Finished Size of Crochet Granny Heart
Using double knitting yarn (light worsted weight), with 4mm hook, approximately 12cm across at widest point, and 12cm high. However, this will vary depending on yarn and hook used.

FPsc (front post single crochet) = insert hook from the front, to back and to front again, under the post of the stitch, yarn over and pull a loop though, yarn over and pull through both loops.
Free Crochet Granny Heart Pattern in US Terms
Work Rounds 1-3 in same colour.
Using chosen yarn and hook, make 4ch. Join with a slst to form a ring then work Round 1 into the centre of the ring. Or, make a magic ring and work Round 1 into the ring, as follows:
Granny Centre
Round 1 (right side): Ch3 (counts as first dc), 2dc in the ring, ch2, [3dc into the ring, ch2] twice. Join with a slst to top of beginning ch3. Slst in the next 2 sts, then slst into the next ch2-sp. (Three groups of 3dc with a ch2 in between each group)
Round 2: Ch3 (counts as first dc), [2dc, ch2, 3dc] all in the same ch2-space, ch2, [3dc, ch2, 3dc] all in the next ch2-sp, ch2, [3dc, ch2, 3dc] all in the next ch2-sp, ch2, then join with a slst to top of beginning ch3. Slst in the next 2 sts, then slst into the next ch2-sp. (Six groups of 3dc with a ch2 in between each group)
Round 3: Ch3 (counts as first dc), [2tr, ch2, 2tr, 1dc] in same space, 1dc in each of next 3 sts, 3dc in next ch2-sp, 1dc in each of next 2 sts, 2tr in next st, 6tr in next ch2-sp, 2tr in next st, 1dc in next st, sc3tog (over next st, ch2-sp, and next st), 1dc in next st, 2tr in next st, 6tr in next ch2-sp, 2tr in next st, 1dc in each of next 2 sts, 3dc in next ch2-sp, 1dc in each of next 3 sts, then slst in top of beginning ch3. Cut yarn then fasten off. (45 sts, 1 x ch2-sp)
Framing The Heart
Round 4: With heart upside-down, join next colour to the ch2-sp at the bottom tip of the heart. Ch1 (does not count as a st), 2sc in same sp, 1sc in each of next 13 sts, 2sc in each of next 2 sts, 2hdc in next st, 2dc in each of next 2 sts, 2hdc in next st, 2sc in next st, 1sc in next st, sc3tog (over next st, sp between sts, and next st - across centre of humps), 1sc in next st, 2sc in next st, 2hdc in next st, 2dc in each of next 2 sts, 2hdc in next st, 2sc in each of next 2 sts, 1sc in next 13 sts, 1sc in next ch2-sp, then slst to top of first sc, changing to next colour on yarn over of slst. Edging
Round 5: With new colour on hook, ch1 (does not count as a st), 1sc in same st, ch2, skip 1 st, [1sc in next st, ch2, skip 1 st] to centre top, 1FPsc around previous sc3tog, ch2, skip 1 st, [1sc in next st, ch2, skip 1 st] to end, then slst in first sc to join. Cut yarn then fasten off. (30 sts, 30 x ch2-sps)
Round 6: Join first colour with slst to ch2-sp to the right of centre top stitch, slst in next ch2-sp, ch3, skip 1 st, [1sc in next ch-sp, ch3, skip 1 st] all around, then slst in sp between first 2 slst. Cut yarn and fasten off. (30 sts (including slsts), 29 x ch3-sps).
TO FINISH: Weave all loose ends into work and trim. Close up centre ring if needed by threading yarn tail through the base of Round 1 stitches (on wrong side). Block flat if needed, and leave to dry. If desired, add a hanging ribbon and a tassel, or use as a card topper.
