Knitting and Crochet Diary #6
Sharing my week of knitting and crochet, and life in general.
Welcome to my yarn diary for my knitting and crochet business. A peek behind the scenes of what I get up to with knitting and crochet, and life in general.
This week, I enjoyed a well-needed rest in North Yorkshire, with family.
A Weekend Getaway In North Yorkshire
We had a lovely weekend away in North Yorkshire with my husband, our son, our daughter, and her two black Labradors Reggie and Chunkz. Our oldest daughter couldn’t make it this time, so we really missed her, but it was still a wonderful break.
We stayed in a Forest Holidays lodge (Forest Holidays UK), complete with a hot tub and BBQ. Everything you needed was included for the weekend, so all we had to do was quickly pack our clothes and toiletries.
The drive from home was around 3.5 hours, and we stopped off once for the doggies to stretch their legs. They were so good in the car.

The weather was absolutely glorious, which made our time outdoors even more enjoyable. We couldn't believe how lucky we fell with the sunshine.
We spent a lot of time walking around the forest, enjoying the fresh air and stunning scenery. I have made a note to make sure I continue my daily walking - come rain or shine!! I find it such a great way to switch off and recharge my batteries ready for work.
Exploring Local Towns
We also explored some of the local towns. Whitby was a highlight, as always. The site of the old ruins on the hill always fills my heart - I know we're nearly there when it comes into view from the moors. We enjoyed classic fish and chips, which is even more exciting for me as gluten-free fish and chips are definitely a rarity. Although my husband had a funny encounter when a seagull tried to dive-bomb his lunch! It managed to get away with his pot of tartare sauce, which had us all in fits of laughter. They are very cheeky gulls!!
Scarborough and Filey were lovely too, perfect for a stroll and for taking in the lovely sea views. Ice-creams are a must when you're at the seaside in the UK, so we indulged in a variety of different flavours and types. I had mine in a tub as I can't eat the cones, but it was just as yummy and I was soon scraping the last bits, wishing for more.....

Handmade Happiness
I was delighted to find a gorgeous hand-made shop on the High Street in Scarborough called Pedrington's Portal, and I felt the need to buy something and support this talented maker. I'm delighted with my new containers, and can't wait to fill them with small yarn balls.

Evenings were relaxing back at the lodge. The hot tub was the perfect way to unwind, and the BBQ made for a simple, delicious dinner. Our son cooked the BBQ food, which was really delicious and all gluten-free. Eating out is so expensive in the UK, so we made a short trip to the local Lidl and got everything we needed (and more), including marshmallows and chocolate for our Digestive Smore's. They were absolutely delicious.

It was a weekend of fresh air, laughter, and quality family time - a perfect little escape.
You may be wondering if knitting or crochet made an appearance?
I think you know the answer !!!
A Bit Of Crochet
I am working on a few Christmas projects, so I can't divulge too much, suffice to say I'm obsessed with one of them. I can't put it down!! Which is always a good sign - because if I love it that much, then I have a good feeling that you will too.

I have chosen yarn stash, with a festive feel that combine well (and also match the required colour palette). I re-worked a very old WIP and simplified the motif to make it much easier. I'm so happy with it, and can't wait to share the pattern in the coming months.
And now, just like that, we're back at home and all back to work too. But the sun is still out, so I'm feeling grateful to have been away with my family and feeling lucky that it didn't rain (which is pretty unusual for the North of England).
A Creative Recharge
Taking a step away from my desk and into the fresh air gave me the space I needed to reset. Walking in the forest, laughing with family, taking the dogs for long walks, and soaking up the sunshine has left me feeling refreshed and full of new ideas.
It reminded me that time away is just as important for creativity as time spent at the desk or knitting or crocheting in my favourite chair at home. I came back with a clearer mind, a notebook full of scribbles (which I hope I can decipher), and plenty of energy to dive back into book writing and pattern planning this week.
I hope you had a fab weekend too, and that the week ahead is a good one for you.
