Knitting and Crochet Diary Week 3

Sharing my week of knitting and crochet, and life in general.

Welcome to my yarn diary for my knitting and crochet business. A peek behind the scenes of what I get up to with knitting and crochet, and life in general. Grab yourself a cuppa, and I hope you enjoy my weekly diary.

Knitting and crochet: I’m Itching to Knit

It feels so long since I knitted. I’m positively itching to knit. I know that sounds really silly, but I can’t shake the urge to break out the yarn and needles.

I’m desperate to knit myself a jumper. But patience is a virtue, and casting on will have to wait until my crochet book is finished.

So, for now, it’s all about the crochet. Whilst I can’t share any finished projects, I can share some of the gorgeous yarn I have been working with.

”All of the yarn for the book is Scheepjes, one of my favourite yarn brands. They create the most amazing colour palettes for their yarns. This means that all the colours will flow beautifully from page to page, which will enhance the readers enjoyment. It’s bringing me such joy too, not just to crochet with, but to try different colour schemes.

This colourful box of Scheepjes Terrazzo holds so many possibilities. Opening the box was like being in a sweet shop.

I’d love to know what you would make with these gorgeous 10g balls?

Sometimes the joy of knitting and crochet is just as enjoyable as the preparation and planning. Do you find that too? Sometimes I don’t really care what it is that I’m making, as long as I’m using lovely yarn. Even better if it’s in lovely colours and with relaxing stitches.

More knitting and crochet: A trip to Black Sheep Wools

This week, from tomorrow (Tuesday), I have the crochet book photographer and art director at my house. The photoshoot will last for three days, to shoot all the steps for the book. It sounds very glamorous, but it’s hard work to stay focussed and organised.

It’s a job in itself to get the shots right, so that they fully represent the written text. Therefore, I’ll have to be on full alert to make sure it’s amazing for all the readers.

To make sure we’ll have all the yarn required, I set off to my favourite local yarn shop. Black Sheep Wools, is located about 30 miles away, so it’s about a 40 minute drive. But I knew that I would find what I needed there, as they sell a wide range of Scheepjes yarn. I wanted to buy them all, but I resisted temptation!!

It’s been ages since I last visited Black Sheep Wools, so it was really enjoyable. I quickly found what I needed, and I was so good at not buying a new Muud bag. I’m very surprised at how restrained I was!! It really is a miracle that I didn’t go home with one.

Mind you, they’re rather pricey, so it made the decision somewhat easier. I’m currently on a mission to sell my unwanted clothes on Vinted, so that I can turn the cash into a new Muud bag. Currently, I have £84 in my pot, so I’m getting there. I have already bought one bag with my first batch of sales, so I’ll share it with you next time. I love it!!

Things that made me smile

Whilst I was having a mooch around, I spotted a few things that made me smile.

Firstly, seeing my books on sale is always a lovely surprise. Knit Yourself Calm and Fairytale Blankets to Crochet are both relatively old now, so it’s really nice to know they are still popular, and are still an inspiration to knitters and crocheters. I’m always very grateful to everyone who buys my books and patterns.

Secondly, I spotted a sample of crochet that I once made, to demonstrate a crochet border. The sample uses Scheepjes Softfun which is just as described – soft to use and fun to knit or crochet with. It only seems like yesterday that I crocheted this sample, yet in reality it was quite a few years ago!! Time flies.

It really was a delight to visit Black Sheep Wools and to experience these happy memories too. A lovely customer also said hello, as we recognised each other, She’d been on one of my workshops there, many years ago, and it was really nice to catch up with her and to see what she was buying and making. She remembered the workshop fondly, which reminded me how important it is to pass on our creative skills.

The teapot is out

Getting out the teapot and Yorkshire Tea can only mean one thing – that my mum and dad are in the house. This weekend however, it was just my dad, as mum was away for the weekend at Walsingham. So instead of the larger pot, I dug out my small tea pot for one, along with my mini crocheted tea cosy.

It was only when I took a quick photo of the lovely tea cosy, that I realised it matched the box of Yorkshire Tea. What a fun coincidence.

I had also forgotten how cute this litte tea pot is, so I had decided to keep it out and use it for my herbal teas. I’m trying to detox at the moment, as my stomach issues have flared up. I’ve been pretty bad with it all, so I’m drinking lots of water, as well as herbal teas, to try and soothe the pains.

If you have any herbals tea recommendations that help soothe the stomach, I’d love to hear them so that I can give them a try.

And finally – it’s nail prep time!

All that remains now is to prepare my nails for the photoshoot. Luckily my lovely daughter came and sorted them out for me, and made them look gorgeous and photo-worthy.

Now I just need to safeguard them from damage before tomorrow, and I’ve been heaping on the hand cream to try and make my hands look less dry!!! It’s tricky when they’re 60 years old, but all-in-all they’re not looking too bad.

And there we have it. Another week has passed by, filled with trips out, family, crochet, and more crochet.

I hope you had a fab week too, and that the week ahead stays bright and warm.
