Knitting and Crochet Diary Week 4

Sharing my week of knitting and crochet, and life in general.

Welcome to my yarn diary for my knitting and crochet business. A peek behind the scenes of what I get up to with knitting and crochet, and life in general. Grab yourself a cuppa, and I hope you enjoy my weekly diary.

A Crochet Photoshoot

Last week, we had the photoshoot for my upcoming crochet book, and it was such an exciting experience!

The shoot took place right here at my house, which made it feel both comfortable and special. Jason the photographer, and Sarah the Art Director were both here for a few days, to capture all the details needed for the book.

We focused on getting step-by-step shots and some beautiful overhead shots that will really help bring the patterns to life for you. Jason was fantastic, making sure every stitch and detail was clear and well-lit. Sarah has a great eye for layout, ensuring everything was perfectly aligned and visually appealing. I was really delighted to see the book coming to life there and then!!

Although I have to confess that we did get in a bit of mess with bits of crochet all over the living room floor!! I suppose it’s inevitable with so much going on.

It was a long day, but seeing the progress and knowing how these photos will help guide you through each pattern made it all worth it. I’m so excited to share the final product with you soon!

A tidy workspace

Sarah, the Art Director, came up to my workroom during the shoot and worked her magic on my shelves.

She arranged everything so beautifully, turning it into a picture-perfect scene for an in-house shot for the book. The shelves were stacked with my colourful hand-dyed yarns, crochet accessories, and my latest Muud bag, all artfully displayed.

Sarah really captured the vibrant and creative essence of my space, and I can’t wait for you all to see how it looks in the final book. It truly reflects my love of knitting, crocheting and creating.

I really didn’t want to spoil her amazing display and it’s still looking exactly the same. I’ll let you know how long it stays that way!

My trusted handheld steamer was the must-have gadget for the three days, magically turning wrinkly yarn straight, and giving my squares a professional look. Sarah was so impressed that she ordered one of her own.

I bought mine from Amazon, and here is my affiliate link below, should you wish to purchase one too. I really can’t do without mine!!

Tassels and wrinkles

One of the projects for the book required a lot of colourful tassels, which turned out to be a bit of a challenge.

The yarn I was using had become wrinkly, so to get those tassels looking their best, I had to soak them in the sink. The process helped straighten out the yarn, making it much easier to work with. I also gave them a good blast with my steamer to give them a final steam.

Once they were dry, the tassels had a smooth, professional look that really brought out the vibrant colours. It was a small but important step to ensure the project turned out just right, and I’m thrilled with how they came together in the end.

Do you go to great lengths to make your projects look perfect? I’d love to hear your top tips.

A family gathering

Over the weekend, we celebrated my nephew’s 30th birthday with a fantastic party at my brother’s home.

The party took place in their gorgeous garden, which was filled with lovely plants and outdoor sitting area. A homemade pizza company came and cooked us all homemade pizzas which were truly delicious. I had a gluten-free pizza and I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

My brother’s bar/shed added an extra space to gather and chat. Crochet is on display in the form of a handmade Dave Vanian (The Damned) doll. Isn’t he fab. I bought it for my bother’s man shed and he loves it as the Damned are his favourite band. He still goes to see them perform every year, and meets up with the lead singer afterwards in the bar for a chat. I have arranged for another ‘Dave’ to be made so that he can take it along in December and gift it to the singer.

It was a wonderful time with family and friends, but it was bittersweet as my dad couldn’t join us due to being in the hospital. We all missed him and wished he was there with us too.

And there we have it. Another week has passed by, filled with crochet, family, and photoshoots.

I hope you had a fab week too, and that the week ahead is a good one for you.
