Abbreviations

Knitted Moss Stitch Coaster Pattern
Using 4mm (US 6) straight knitting needles and chosen yarn, cast on 23 stitches, leaving a tail end of yarn that is long enough to weave in.
Rows 1-9: [K1, p1] to the last stitch, k1.
10th row (wrong side): [K1, p1] 3 times, p11, [p1, k1] 3 times.
11th row (right side): [K1, p1] 3 times, k11, [p1, k1] 3 times.
Rows 12-25: Repeat 10th and 11th rows, seven times more.
Rows 26-34: Repeat rows 1-9 then cast off (bind off) in moss stitch.
To cast off or bind off in Moss Stitch, this simply means to work in the [k1, p1] pattern as you cast off.
Cut yarn, leaving a 15cm tail end. Thread the tail end through last stitch, then pull tight to fasten off. Weave yarns ends into wrong side of work, for approximately 2-3cm, then trim.

To Finish
Block out your knitted coaster to 13cm square. It makes all the difference to your finished coaster, and will help you achieve a perfect square. Simply pin your coaster flat, on any soft surface, or onto a blocking mat. You can either spray it with cold water, or steam it with a clothes steamer or steam iron. Leave to dry completely.
