Free Crochet Scrubbie Pattern - eco-friendly cleansing pads

Pin for later or share with your friends

My free crochet scrubbie pattern is perfect to crochet an eco-friendly alternative to throw-away pads, because they are a more sustainable option, with less waste.

You can wash them and use them again and again, so they will help you save money too (especially if you use up your yarn stash).

If you have lots of cotton yarn oddments in your stash, then this pattern will be great for you, because you can crochet a set of durable face pads - no more buying throw-away pads.

What type of yarn do I need for this free crochet scrubbie pattern?

  • These pretty, textured scrubbies are perfect for your left-over cotton yarn.
  • An organic cotton is best, as it has higher absorbent qualities.
  • Any non-mercerised (non-shiny) cotton will work well too.
  • They are really quick and easy to make and are great for gifting too.

I use my own cleansing pads daily without fail, and I can't remember the last time I bought throw-away cotton pads or balls, so these little pads are a great eco-friendly option.

What Thickness of yarn is best for Crochet Scrubbies?

  • You can use double knitting or aran weight yarn, and even 4ply yarn will work well for a smaller scrubbie.
  • Aran yarn is thicker, so it may be a little more absorbent, which is perfect for using in the bath or shower.
  • Double knitting (light worsted weight) is thinner, and therefore more useful a toner or cleansing pad in your daily skincare routine.

How do I use my Crchet Scrubbies?

  • To use these pads, you simply wet them with water and rub onto a bar of soap, or add a few drops of your liquid body wash or face cleanser, then gently wipe and rinse.
  • They will last indefinitely as they're made from cotton, and you can wash them over and over again.

Materials You Will Need

  • Any yarn weight - this pattern works well with double knitting (8ply/light worsted), aran-weight (10ply/worsted) or even chunky (bulky) yarn.
  • Use a recommended hook size for the yarn thickness chosen (check your yarn label for the recommendation), or use the following guide:
    • 4ply yarn - use a US D/3 (3mm) hook.
    • Double knitting (light worsted) - use a US G/6 (4mm) hook.
    • Aran weight (worsted/10ply) - use a US 7 (4.5mm) or US H/8 (5mm) hook.
  • Yarn needle for sewing in ends.
  • Scissors.
  • Optional stitch marker if you’re new to working in rounds.

Tension is not critical for this project. Just keep your stitches even and remember that different yarn weights will produce different square sizes.

Approximately 7.5cm (3in) across, using double knitting (light worsted) yarn and 4mm (US G/6) hook. This will vary if different yarn/hook size is used.
